This year’s Hull Pride event, which took place on Saturday 30 July, has been hailed as a massive success by the event’s organisers.
Over 5,000 people attended on the day to see acts including the Vengaboys, X-Factor contestants The Reason 4 and dance diva Kelly Llorenna.
Pride Director Andy Train said: “We were really pleased with the turn-out this year. It was the first year we’ve charged for entry and we really hoped that people would feel like they got value for money and from what we’re hearing, they did.”
The gates opened at 10.30am on Saturday morning when the Pride Upstarz took to the stage. This group of young people had all entered a competition to perform on the stage alongside the headline acts. The competition was won by Michael Jackson dance-a-like Perry Pullman, but the standard was so high among the many children who entered that they were given a slot before the official opening.

Lord Mayor of Hull Colin Inglis took to the stage at midday to officially open the event before the main acts started to perform. The Lord Mayor had previously arranged for the Pride Flag to fly over the Guildhall and on his car for the day to show his support for the event. He then took his table in the VIP area to enjoy the show, meeting the Vengaboys and The Reason 4.
One of the highlights of the day came later in the afternoon when representatives from Humberside Police and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service joined the organisers on stage for a fully choreographed performance of the YMCA.
Andy said: “We wanted to do something to involve the Police and the Fire Service as they have been so supportive, both this year and in the past. The Fire Service even agreed to fly the pride flag over all of their Hull stations last year, which they repeated this year.”
As the Vengaboys took to the stage to close to close the show, the crowd’s excitement grew. Performing all of their hits including their number ones, Boom, boom, boom, boom! and We’re Going to Ibiza to finish the day on a high.
Andy said: “The whole team worked really hard to make this year’s event happen donating their time, skills and investing their own money to ensure it went ahead and that people had a great day. We’re really proud of what we achieved.”
The Hull Pride Committee would like to thank all of their sponsors and advertisers for their support along with everyone who volunteered on the day.
See you next year.
